Alzheimer’s patient found by troopers – Jan. 7, 2011

Niles Post troopers located a missing 73-year-old Alzheimer’s patient who had wandered out of his home in freezing temperatures.

The troopers responded to the scene and consoled the man’s wife, who did not know when her husband left or how he was dressed. With temperatures around 12 degrees, the troopers quickly began searching the area and located footprints leading into a wooded area.

While following the tracks, a trooper was able to locate the elderly man behind a park Dumpster. He was dressed in light clothing and was shivering.

Ambulance attendants later reported the man had a body temperature of 85 degrees.
