Counterfeit Money Orders – March 11, 2010

An office supply store made a report of a suspicious subject who was in their store mailing numerous overnight packages to locations around the United States.  The packages were intercepted by FedEx and found to contain counterfeit MoneyGram money orders.

The Flint Post was requested to investigate and a trooper obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence. With the assistance of another trooper and an FBI agent, they located and seized counterfeit MoneyGram money orders, U.S. Postal money orders and counterfeit Citizens Bank cashiers checks.

Interviews with bank officials revealed the suspect is part of a national ring passing counterfeit checks.  To date, the bank has recorded more than $437,000 in losses.

The case was turned over to the FBI and the U.S. Attorneys Office for further investigation and prosecution.
