The MSP helicopter assigned to southeast Michigan, known as “Trooper 2”, responded to various calls for assistance across the metropolitan Detroit area this evening. Trooper 2 first responded to traffic lane hazards on the I-75 Rouge Bridge, followed by a house fire call. The helicopter then assisted a Detroit Police Department narcotics crew that was having difficulty getting a suspect vehicle stopped. Once stopped, a search yielded 10 grams of cocaine. From there, it was off to an armed robbery and auto theft on the east side and then an assist to Southfield officers who were dealing with a vehicle that refused to stop on I-696. The evening ended with a double shooting on the east side near Dickerson and, finally, a very large fight at a shopping plaza that required the response of at least a dozen patrol cars.
