Investigators from the Paw Paw Post were investigating separate armed robberies that occurred on January 25 and 28. They had good surveillance pictures of the suspect vehicle that they shared with area law enforcement. On January 30, a Van Buren County deputy and a trooper stopped a vehicle matching the suspect’s vehicle description. The driver did not have identification on him and the trooper could find no record of the name the suspect provided.
A detective sergeant took a digital picture of the suspect and entered it into the Statewide Network of Agency Photos (SNAP). Using facial recognition, SNAP identified the suspect within 30 seconds. His picture had been placed into SNAP when he was arrested on January 9 in Ottawa County and he currently had several outstanding warrants. He was arrested on the warrants and provided investigators with information on the armed robberies.
