$5 million in stolen property recovered – Jan. 20, 2010

The MSP Major Case Unit recently initiated an investigation into a stolen property/scrap metal ring involving General Motors tools and equipment stolen from warehouses in Howell over the past two to three years. Some of the stolen property was broken down and scrapped at a Lansing area yard, netting several hundred thousand dollars for the thieves.

On this date, a series of search warrants were executed, resulting in the recovery of approximately $5 million in stolen property. One location required a three-day search due to the amount of property recovered. In addition to the property, methamphetamine and heroin were also seized, along with $30,000 in counterfeit $100 bills.  Multiple agencies assisted in this investigation.
