Drunk Semi Driver – Jan. 11, 2010

A motor carrier officer from the Lapeer Post stopped a semi-truck for suspected drunk driving. Upon making contact with the driver, the officer detected a strong odor of intoxicants . The driver failed the standardized field sobriety tests and blew a 0.14 on the PBT. Located in the vehicle were 15 empty cans of Budweiser and two additional 12-packs of beer.

The driver stated he was unsure where and when he started drinking, but he thought it was somewhere in Illinois.  The driver’s log book showed he left Missouri at 7:45 a.m. and drove continuously for 12 hours across four states.  The Canadian truck driver was arrested and lodged at the Lapeer County jail.
