An MSP canine team responded to assist the Grand Rapids Police Department track three men who committed a home invasion. When the homeowner returned home, the three men attempted to flee in a stolen van, but accidentally crashed it into a snow bank and fled on foot. The canine tracked the suspects through neighborhoods to the rear of a house. Back-up officers observed the suspect run ahead of the canine and into a residence. A perimeter was established and, after several hours, the suspects surrendered to the Grand Rapids Police Department and the Federal Fugitive Task Force.
The canine, who was sent into the house to clear it, located the suspect’s jacket, stolen property and a stolen handgun hidden in the attic. A large amount of stolen property was also recovered.
This home invasion crew is believed to be responsible for dozens of home invasions in the last month in Grand Rapids.
