A Wayland Post trooper was on patrol when central dispatch put out a “be on the lookout” for a red SUV towing a stolen covered U-Haul trailer. The trooper drove to the area where the suspect vehicle was last seen and within minutes, the trooper spotted the vehicle minus the trailer. A traffic stop was attempted, but the suspect vehicle fled. Unable to lose the trooper, the suspect vehicle slowed and the passenger jumped out on foot. A responding canine team arrested the passenger while the vehicle pursuit continued.
The pursuit continued onto a snowmobile trail, where the suspect stopped and backed up, ramming the patrol car. The suspect then exited the vehicle and ran into the woods. The suspect ran for about a mile before being caught by the trooper and an Allegan County Sheriff’s deputy. He was found to be under the influence of methamphetamine.
The trailer was recovered, and both subjects were lodged in jail pending numerous charges.
