An Ionia Post trooper stopped a vehicle that was pulling a trailer with no tail -lights and found the driver had a suspended license. While the driver was being placed under arrest, he told the trooper there was a firearm in the vehicle, and then gave the trooper consent to search the vehicle.
A loaded Marlin 30-30 rifle that had been reported stolen to the Ionia County Sheriff’s Department several days earlier was found behind the seat. A sheriff’s deputy was contacted and the suspect told both officers where he received the gun. The trooper and the deputy made contact at the location, and recovered two additional stolen guns and other property. Additionally, a complex marijuana grow operation was discovered.
In total, four subjects were taken into custody for the break-in, and additional charges are pending for the grow operation.
